Asheron's Call Location Tracker

Features

Asheron's Call Location Tracker, often referred to as ACTrack, is a real-time location monitoring utility for Asheron's Call players. Once you start using ACTrack, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it!

Check out this list of some of ACTrack's features:

  • Tight integration with a graphical map of Dereth:
    • See where you are at all times, with great terrain detail.
    • View lifestones, portals, and interest points on the map.
    • Zoom in for a close up view.
    • See the shortest path to any location.
  • Locate your corpse! Most of the time, ACTrack can lead you back to your corpse:
    • Your corpse location is displayed graphically on the map.
    • ACTrack automatically calculates the shortest path back to your body.
    • Your corpse location can be copied to the clipboard so that you can just use paste in-game to see it.
  • Shortest path calculation:
    • ACTrack can calculate the shortest route from your current location to any location on Dereth.
    • This path is indicated graphically on the map and ACTrack automatically detects as you travel this route, updating the map accordingly.
    • Step-by-step directions for a route can be copied to the clipboard as you travel so that you will always know where to go next from within the game.
    • Supports using lifestone recall and portal recall in the path calculations.
  • Client-server support allows you to play Asheron's Call on one machine and interact with ACTrack on another machine connected to the same network, while still taking advantage of all the benefits of real-time location tracking.
  • Works well in a multiple monitor environment. View the ACTrack map on your second monitor while playing Asheron's Call!
  • Tested on Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows 2000. ACTrack should also work on other releases of Windows 95; please send me mail if you can verify this, including the version of Windows 95 that you are using (Retail, OSR2.5).
  • It's free! While I will accept in-game donations of just about anything, you are under no obligation to give me even a single pyreal for using ACTrack. Enjoy!

11/13/2000 Pax, of the Order of the Knights who say Nerf! of Frostfell, has written a tool to download the AC 'Spedia database and convert it to ACTrack format, allowing you to keep your location.txt file up to date with all of the latest data. Download ACS2ACT v3.4. ACS2ACT also has the ability to download from some other databases, if you are overwhelmed by the amount of data from AC 'Spedia.

Getting Started

To use ACTrack, you need two pieces: the main application and associated files, and, if you want to use the map features, a map bitmap. ACTrack can handle map bitmaps of almost any size, but most folks use the 2048 x 2048 map provided.

I recommend that you use the map only if you have at least 48M of memory in your system (ACTrack uses roughly 12M of memory when running with this map on most systems, while the system requirements for Asheron's Call say that it needs 32M of memory itself). ACTrack will also work without a map bitmap, though you will sacrifice all of the map integration features, leaving mainly corpse location and travel history, which you may still find useful.

Download both the main application files and the map, then unzip them both to the same directory. I suggest that you at least skim the readme.txt file, as it goes into detail about how to use ACTrack and explains all of the options and commands. After you've done this, or if you want to jump right in, simply run ACTrack.exe and start playing!

Important!
With each release of a new Asheron's Call client (some monthly patches), you will need to change the memory address scanned by ACTrack. You can either find the new memory address yourself by following the directions in the 'How do I calibrate ACTrack?' section of the readme.txt file, or by using the address that I found from calibration. In the vast majority of cases, this address should work for you. To enter this address, press the Options... button on the main dialog to open the Options Dialog. On this dialog, enter the address (currently 0x00686f54) in the Memory Address field of the Scan Options section, and press OK. At this point, ACTrack should be back to normal, with no changes necessary until the next AC client is released.

Release History

05/07/2000 The application files have been updated to version 2.02. This release fixes the following problems: map doesn't paint correctly at 1600x1200 screen resolution on some video cards on Win9x (confirmed on Nvidia TNT/TNT2); main dialog position saved offscreen in some circumstances, so that it looks like it isn't available. Added a Web Site button to the About dialog. Updated default memory location for new installs to match the May AC client. Otherwise, functionality is identical to prior releases.

04/30/2000 The application files have been updated to version 2.01. This release fixes the problem where the Show Map... button was disabled for some users with Matrox G400 and Creative TNT video cards and drivers. No additional functionality has otherwise been added, but if you are having problems with Show Map..., you will want to download this version.
